This room is about a Vietnamese cải lương (traditional opera) troupe with a cursed play.

The Thanh Đượm opera troupe (đoàn cải lương) has been operating for many years. In the early years, the troupe was very well-received. But after the fire that year, when lead actress Ngọc Hoa died in the fire, the troupe’s reputation began to decline. The manager at that time hurriedly sold off the troupe cheaply and disappeared.

The person who later bought the opera troupe was manager Tâm. The opera troupe was also renamed Lệ Tâm. He had tried to perform the old play again, but every time it was scheduled, something happened to the troupe. From then on, rumors began in the troupe. Some said it was because the actress died on stage during this play so her ghost doesn’t want anyone to perform it anymore; others said this play is cursed – performing it means no one in the troupe will have peace. Eventually everyone was afraid, and the troupe’s reputation was no longer what it used to be. Many years passed, people gradually forgot the tragedy of years past. Audiences also gradually thinned out. The troupe no longer performed major plays, only on weekends or festivals would the stage light up.

In a time when cải lương no longer maintains its unique position in the entertainment industry, manager Tâm decided to restage the play that made the troupe famous in the old days as a farewell, after which the troupe will disband. In the role of troupe members, while restaging the play, you accidentally learn the story of years past. Mysteries are gradually revealed, a horrifying secret has been buried for over 20 years. Whose mournful singing is it, whose soul has not found peace, what will be the fate of the opera troupe?

What Makes This Unique

This room explores Vietnamese cải lương (traditional musical theater/opera) culture. Players are opera troupe members rehearsing a cursed play where the lead actress Ngọc Hoa died in a fire 20+ years ago. The final performance before the troupe disbands becomes an investigation into buried secrets and supernatural phenomena. This is NOT about yin-yang cosmic philosophy – the Vietnamese title “Mệnh Âm Dương” may reference theatrical/opera terminology or fate concepts.
