Story
Tokyo, Japan: The Yamamoto family operates a peculiar business open only at night. They specialize in extremely unusual clientele requests—the kind of contracts that require supernatural solutions. You’re recruited as “spirit communicators”—individuals with the ability to negotiate with demons and yokai. Your first contract: retrieve a mysterious package from the Sango Hotel on behalf of an anonymous client. The task seems straightforward, until you realize the package is cursed, the hotel is haunted, and the client’s true identity involves far darker purposes. As your investigation deepens, you encounter entities that defy explanation, rituals you don’t understand, and truths about yourself and your companions that challenge reality itself. You must navigate this supernatural corporate nightmare, uncover the client’s real agenda, and escape before becoming permanently trapped in the demonic contract.
What Makes This Unique
False Demon is EMES’ most intellectually demanding room. Inspired by Japanese horror and Lovecraftian cosmic dread, the narrative resists simple explanation. Puzzles are enigmatic—some solutions aren’t obvious or logical by Western standards. The room requires players to question their assumptions and embrace ambiguity. The horror is existential rather than visceral. Multiple interpretations of events are valid; players never receive complete closure. The room appeals to players seeking artistic escape room experiences that linger in the mind post-game.
